Marjorie Collins was born in Chicago and trained at the University of Michigan, where she obtained a degree in Fine Art, and later part time at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has lived and worked in Oxford since moving to England in 1975.
She has exhibited widely both in the USA and in England; in London, she has held a solo show at the Barbican Centre as well as exhibiting at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, the Royal Watercolour Society and at the Singer and Friedlander/Sunday Times Watercolour Competition. In 1992 she was awarded the Daler Rowney Purchase Prize for one of her floral still life watercolours and in 1999 was awarded the Winsor and Newton Grand Prize for one of her still life watercolours in the Celebration 2000 Competition, sponsored by the Artist magazine. In 2003 one of her watercolour paintings was a finalist in the Still Life/Floral Competition, sponsored by International Artist magazine. Her paintings have also been included in a number of magazine articles and books, the most recent being in 2002, in the book entitled "Inspiration to Paint Watercolours". In 2004 her work will appear in two books - "How Did You Paint That? 100 Ways to Paint Still Lifes and Florals", published by International Artist, and "Painting Light and Shadow" by Patricia Seligman, published by North Light Books in the USA and by Search Press in the UK. She has been a member of the Society of Women Artists since 1994. Her most recent solo show was held at Templeton College, Oxford in 2003.
